Becoming a Sister

Becoming a mother changes you.  You become stronger and wiser.  Becoming the mother of a child with Down syndrome changes you and you realize that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought was possible.  Not only does your heart grow, but you have a different outlook on life as well.  I am more patient and compassionate and I enjoy each stage as it slowly comes and goes:)  I'm glad that I have Aubrey.  It is one of the best blessings in my life.
Our plan was to be done having children, but the Lord saw fit to bless us again, and Emelia, had been the best blessing for Aubrey.  When I think about all the things she would have missed out on by not being a big makes me sad.
They are buddies for sure and when she comes around the corner at school and sees Emmie there, she almost starts running and Emmie gets the first hug and kiss....not me!
Aubrey tries to be helpful (like feeding Emmie cereal:)....and teaching her how to do summer saults (or maybe she's just rubbing her face in the dirt!).  There is definitely a wonderful sister bond between these two and I can't wait to see their friendship continue.

I think sometimes I'm so focused on what a blessing Aubrey has been to us, that I forget that each of the people in her life, are also a blessing to her.
